"It was a mistake. I was on spring break with my buddies from Michigan State in Delray Beach, Florida, and one night we got totally wasted. Somehow we ended up at this tattoo parlor off Exit 44 of I-95 South after we left the bar, and my friend Austin, who was driving the rental, was like, 'let's all get fucking tattoos.' And I was like, 'don't you think we should get tattoos when we're not drunk?' And Austin turned toward me (I was in the driver's seat) and said, 'Nick, you've got to live life as if you'll die today.' And I was like, 'today, like right now, in this car you're driving on the highway while totally wasted?' And he was like, 'yeah man.' So then we all went to this tattoo parlor and got tattoos. It took me a while to come up with an idea for a tattoo. I thought of maybe a quote from 'The Lion King' but then I realized the gift of Austin's wisdom in the moment. It was decided that I would go with 'live as if you'll die today.' It's not so much that I regret the tattoo per se but that I think the quote was a mistake a priori. After we got into a nasty car accident on I-95 on the way back to our hotel room (all-inclusive) I thought, living life as if you'll die today is reckless. Later I realized that flesh is always hotter than ink. It was a mistake. 617-301-0174."
